Lyrical Joe is a Ghanaian rapper
Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has opened up about his difficult beginnings and how the loss of his parents shaped his musical journey.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on February 26, 2026, Lyrical Joe described his rise in the music industry as both a blessing and a curse.
“Life happened very fast to me and I feel it’s a blessing and a curse. In a way, I had to pick up my tools and make sure I don’t fall,” he said.
According to him, certain life experiences forced him to toughen up and push himself harder because he felt he had no excuse to fail.
“Sometimes some things happen which give you the kick, since now I know there’s nobody and there’s nowhere I’m going to, I don’t have any excuse to fail, so I just had to go hard,” he stated.
The rapper disclosed that it was during that challenging period that he began writing a lot more music, using rap as an outlet to process his emotions and circumstances.
He also revealed that his introduction to rap music came through his brother, who was actively rapping at the time.
“If I could recall very well, that’s when I really started writing a lot of music. I was introduced to rap music by my brother and he was also rapping at that time. I really didn’t start rapping that early; I started with writing music. Sometimes I gave him verses,” he recounted.
I want information about me to be only about my music – Lyrical Joe
Lyrical Joe said after losing his parents, he had to move to stay with his sister while she was in school, a period he described as pivotal in shaping his resilience.
“I quite remember when I lost my parents, I had to leave Accra and go stay with my sister in school. Sometimes my brother would call me and say we’re about to go and do a song.
“He would then ask if I had a verse written. I had to flip through my notebook and read to him because the phone I had couldn’t send pictures,” he explained.
He noted that those moments of reading verses over the phone from his notebook marked the beginning of him truly finding his footing in music.
“That’s how I really picked myself up,” he added.
