Lilwin Doesn’t Understand How Amazon Prime Works – Top Director Fires Shots

Veteran Ghanaian film director Jones Agyeman has hit back at Lilwin following the actor’s claims that his recent film made it to Amazon Prime due to its superior directing and overall quality. In an interview with Papa Jay of Poleeno Multimedia, Agyeman strongly refuted that notion, implying that Lilwin lacks a true understanding of how international streaming platforms function.

He criticized the actor’s suggestion, stating that success on platforms like Amazon Prime has less to do with production excellence and more to do with having the right distribution links. Agyeman remarked that Lilwin’s comments reflect a lack of awareness and jokingly attributed it to his possible inability to comprehend the technicalities behind digital film marketplaces.

The seasoned director explained that Amazon Prime operates more like an open marketplace than a selective platform. In his view, listing a movie there is often about access and strategy, not necessarily talent or critical acclaim. He mentioned that renowned directors such as Frank Fiifi Garbin and Jackson K. Bentum understand this, which is why they don’t place excessive value on Amazon listings.

Agyeman also addressed the downsides of such platforms, revealing that most of them come with rigid terms that prevent filmmakers from republishing their work elsewhere, like on YouTube—where local producers tend to recover their investments more rapidly. These contracts, he emphasized, often limit content ownership and financial flexibility.

Sharing a personal example, Agyeman disclosed that one of his own productions, Two Pilots—which starred Lilwin—had the opportunity to be featured on Amazon Prime. However, he turned it down after evaluating the platform’s restrictions and concluding that other options offered better returns.
