Popular Ghanaian actor and musician, Kwadwo Nkansah, known widely as Lilwin, has stirred fresh controversy in the film industry after making a bold declaration about the standards of Kumawood directors.
During an interview with Poleeno Multimedia’s Papa Jay at the naming ceremony of his publicist’s newborn, Lilwin didn’t mince words when asked about the quality of movie direction in Kumawood. He asserted that although the industry is flooded with many people who call themselves directors, only a select few are capable of producing movies that meet international expectations.
When asked to identify these standout filmmakers, Lilwin unhesitatingly named Frank Fiifi Garbin as his top pick. He went on to add Jackson K. Bentum as his second choice, praising the quality and professionalism they bring to their productions.
However, for the third spot, Lilwin cheekily left it open, suggesting that the rest of the Kumawood directors should convene and determine among themselves who qualifies to be added to the elite list.
Backing his choices, he cited the success of his recent project, A Country Called Ghana, which was directed by Frank Fiifi Garbin and is now streaming on Amazon Prime. He emphasized that this platform isn’t like YouTube, where anyone can upload content with minimal barriers—implying that reaching such heights demands true quality and expertise.
Lilwin’s comments have since sparked conversation within the film community, with many divided over whether his assessment was harsh honesty or an unnecessary dig at his peers.
