Economics lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Patrick Asuming, has described the first year of the Mahama administration as largely successful.

He cites clear leadership direction and an improved national mood as key indicators of progress.

Speaking on Citi FM on Saturday, January 10, Prof Asuming said it was apparent from the early days of the administration that the government entered office with a well-thought-out plan and a strong sense of purpose.

He noted that the President acted swiftly to roll out his agenda, signalling confidence and preparedness.

According to him, even critics of some government policies would admit to clarity in decision-making and consistency in execution.

He said the speed with which the administration moved to implement its priorities helped set a positive tone for governance.

Prof Asuming identified the restoration of confidence as one of the government’s most notable achievements.

He recalled that between 2022 and the end of 2024, Ghana endured a prolonged economic downturn that dampened growth and left both households and businesses pessimistic about the future.

He explained that data from the Bank of Ghana’s Consumer and Business Sentiment Surveys showed a marked improvement in outlook once it became clear that there would be a change in government, even before the new administration was sworn in.

He added that the government reinforced this optimism by honouring key campaign promises in its first budget, helping to build trust and sustain public support in its early months in office.
