President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), constituted to provide strategic counsel on the nation’s economic recovery and growth agenda.
He swore in members of the body at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and urged them to offer frank and evidence-based advice to guide policy.
President Mahama said the group’s mandate covers macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability and structural reform.
He called for rigorous analysis and practical proposals rooted in national interest.
“Your counsel is therefore expected to be frank, independent, evidence-based, and anchored in the long-term national interest,” President Mahama said, referring to the group’s advisory role on industrial development, export-led growth, private sector activity and job creation.
President Mahama stated that the country faces renewed debt distress, despite earlier gains from the HIPC initiative, and highlighted challenges in the oil and energy sectors, governance of state-owned enterprises, and policy inconsistency as areas requiring reform.
He said the group would support efforts to rebuild credibility, attract investment and lay the basis for inclusive growth.
He noted that the advisory body operated under former President John Evans Atta Mills and during his earlier tenure, and has now been expanded to respond to the present economic demands. Meetings will be chaired by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang in his absence.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Vice President Opoku Agyemang said members would provide independent and practical advice to support government initiatives, including the 24 Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development Programme.
She said economic policy must translate into real outcomes for citizens, including stable incomes, access to housing, functioning markets and opportunities for young people and women.
Membership of the group draws from former finance ministers, private sector leaders, industrialists and academics. Those named include Dr Kwabena Duffuor, Mr Kwame Pianim, Togbe Afede XIV, Ms Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa and Ms Abena Amoah.
President Mahama urged members to present differing views and workable solutions as the country pursues economic recovery.
He said the group will meet at least once every quarter, with provision for additional meetings where national circumstances require prompt attention.
