Reports had earlier emerged regarding the dismissal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, with claims that he had been removed from office despite being widely regarded as hardworking.
A new development has now confirmed these reports, as President John Dramani Mahama has officially appointed a new IGP.
According to a communiqué, President Mahama has named Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police, replacing Dr. Dampare.
The appointment, made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, was confirmed in a statement issued by Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
This latest appointment validates earlier indications of a leadership change at the helm of the Ghana Police Service.
