President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s position on Ghana’s traditional family values, stressing that the government recognises marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman and views gender identity as determined at birth.

The president outlined this stance during an engagement with the Christian Council of Ghana at the Jubilee House on November 18, 2025, where he underscored the central role of the family in the nation’s social fabric. He assured the delegation that the government’s perspective aligns closely with the values championed by the Council.

Mahama also addressed ongoing discussions surrounding the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, expressing support for the Speaker of Parliament’s request for the legislation to be reintroduced. He explained that returning the bill to the House would allow lawmakers to revisit its contents, refine any sections that require adjustment, and proceed toward a final decision.

The president made it clear that if Parliament examines the bill again, reaches a consensus, and approves it, he will give his assent once it is presented to him for signature.
