President John Dramani Mahama has outlined the key principles underpinning the composition of the Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), stressing experience, diversity and inclusivity as central to its mandate.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House, the President said the formation of the Group had been guided by “several principles”, foremost among them experience and institutional memory.
“Some members of PAGE have served across different administrations, including during my earlier tenure in office. This continuity is important,” President Mahama stated.
He explained that drawing on individuals with prior governmental and policy experience would help ensure that lessons from the past are not lost.
“Experience allows us to sustain what has worked, correct what has failed and avoid repeating costly mistakes,” he said.
The President noted that the complexity of Ghana’s current economic challenges demanded a broad and balanced range of expertise. He said the second guiding principle was diversity of knowledge and sectoral balance.
According to him, members of the Advisory Group bring experience spanning fiscal policy, monetary management, capital markets, private enterprise, academia and the real economy.
Such a mix, he indicated, would enable the Group to offer well-rounded and practical advice.
President Mahama also underscored the importance of gender and generational balance in shaping economic policy. He stressed that policymaking must reflect the full breadth of national talent.
“Economic policy must reflect the full breadth of national talents,” he remarked, adding that PAGE includes strong representation of women, young professionals, seasoned practitioners and scholars, as well as elderly figures whose perspectives would enrich deliberations.
“This breadth is not symbolic; it is strategic,” the President emphasised.
He expressed confidence that the Advisory Group would provide thoughtful, evidence-based guidance to support government efforts to strengthen economic governance and promote sustainable growth.
