President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday visited Nobi Agriculture, a private farming project located at Sikasu in the Afram Plains.

He was accompanied by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, and received by the project’s founder, Kwame Awuah-Darko.

During the visit, the delegation toured sections of the farm, including rice fields, irrigation systems, storage facilities, silos and a processing plant. They were also taken through the project’s rice research operations.

The visit focused on the role of large-scale farming and private sector participation in food production. Discussions during the tour touched on how agricultural projects can contribute to supply chains, agro-processing and employment, particularly in rural areas.

The Afram Plains area, where the project is located, is considered one of Ghana’s key agricultural zones due to its land availability and farming potential.

Nobi Agriculture is one of several privately led initiatives aimed at expanding domestic food production. Observers say such projects could support efforts to reduce food imports and improve output, though challenges remain, including financing, infrastructure and market access.
