President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans by his government to construct 50 Farmers Service Centres across the country, in a bid to strengthen support systems within the agricultural sector.
Speaking as the guest of honour at the launch of the Ghana Agrotech Fair 2026, organised by the Ghana EXIM Bank on Tuesday, March 17, in Accra, the President disclosed that the first phase of the project will comprise 11 centres. He added that he is expected to break ground for the first facility in Afram Plains on Friday, 20 March.
“I am going to break the ground for the first Farmers Service Centre this Friday at the Afram Plains. The government intends to build 50 of these centres nationwide in the main agriculture-producing areas. The first phase will cover eleven centres,” he said
According to him, the centres will serve as critical hubs for delivering essential services to farmers, aimed at improving productivity and enhancing efficiency across the value chain.
President Mahama further indicated that farmers will be required to register with the centres upon completion, after which they will access targeted support to advance their operations.
“Farmers will be required to register with their local farmers’ service centre, and they will get mechanisation supports…. and many other supports. They will even be given training at these centres, and there will be extension officers who will give them advice on their productions.”
He noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernise agriculture, improve coordination, and ensure that farmers receive structured and sustained assistance to scale up production.
