President John Mahama delivered a message of hope, unity, and resilience, urging Ghanaians not to surrender to despair despite the challenges facing the nation.

Addressing congregants at the Light House Church at Independence Square during the Good Friday service, President Mahama said, “I say to every Ghanaian this Easter season: do not lose hope, do not give up on our country Ghana, and do not surrender to despair.”

President Mahama acknowledged that many citizens feel disheartened when progress seems slow, but stressed that Ghana has the potential to become a nation that all can be proud of.

“Just as resurrection followed death, just as resurrection followed the cross, so too will progress follow the hardships we are going through,” he added.

The President extended his thoughts and prayers to regions affected by conflict around the world, particularly the Middle East and the Holy Land, where violence continues to claim innocent lives.

“It is a painful irony that the land where Christ was born and preached love, forgiveness, and peace has become a theatre of war and suffering,” he said.

Invoking the teachings of Christ, he quoted Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God,” and called for restraint, dialogue, and justice as essential steps towards lasting peace.

He emphasised that Ghana stands for peace, justice, and human dignity, urging all communities to embrace love over hatred, in line with the universal message of Easter.

President Mahama also encouraged citizens to take personal responsibility in promoting unity and constructive action.

“Easter is not only about reflection; it is about decision. Each of us must choose to be instruments of unity, contribute to solutions rather than problems, and pass on hope to our children instead of cynicism,” he said.
