In a critical evaluation of President John Dramani Mahama’s first year back in office, well-known media personality Nana Aba Anamoah gave the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration a strong 75% to 80%.
In an interview with host Kwame Dadzie on Saturday, February 21, 2026, on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, the media veteran said that Mahama’s second coming has brought about a much-needed period of economic stability and ministerial humility.
Her remarks coincide with the administration’s first anniversary since the transition in January 2025. The noteworthy economic recovery was the main focus of Nana Aba’s appraisal.
She commended President and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson for guiding the country out of a precarious phase by comparing the current fiscal climate with the latter years of the former NPP administration.
“I believe that the economy has stabilized under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. His finance minister is doing a great job, in my opinion. Compared to the previous three or four years, the economy is doing really well right now. It was very tumultuous,” she noted.
Nana Aba pointed to a change in the stance of political leadership in a criticism of the previous administration. She asserted that the current appointees have mostly avoided the contemptuous attitude toward the public and media that characterized the previous government.
“The previous administration exhibited an excessive amount of conceit. They were so contemptuous of journalists and their opinion that you could hear it in their radio statements. “It was just really, really haughty,” she said. She added that President Mahama himself seems to have changed, making sure his current employees don’t make the same mistakes they did during his first tenure (2012–2017).
“I think JM’s second coming is fantastic.”He’s learned his lesson since there were instances of haughtiness during his first term as well—not with him, but with his appointments. However, now things are different,” she continued. Nana Aba was quick to identify specific officials who have raised the bar for responsiveness in government. She praised Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for his digital accessibility and Gender Minister Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey for her proactive approach to social issues.
“Oboubia is actually my favorite. Oboubia’s work with Mahama is appealing to me. The way she visits hospitals, which has become a weekly routine… That’s nice,” Nana Aba said. Although Nana Aba acknowledged that a four-year mandate is still in its early stages, she voiced hope about the nation’s future. According to her, the current group of appointments seems cautious and involved, showing up where they are most needed.
“The trajectory appears to be favorable.”I’m really pleased with the work they’re doing so far, and it looks positive,” she said.Although it sets a high threshold for the government to meet as they approach the midterm mark, Nana Aba’s high grade is a noteworthy endorsement from a media figure recognized for her stringent standards as the NDC administration enters its second year.
