A video circulating on social media shows former Denkyira Obuasi Assemblyman William Baah leaving court after being acquitted in the long-running case surrounding the lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama. In the footage, Baah and another individual are seen wearing white shirts and black trousers, with white powder on their heads to signify their release, while prison officers escorted them out and journalists documented the moment.

Baah’s acquittal comes after a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal, which ruled that the original trial judge misdirected the jury, resulting in a wrongful conviction. The former assemblyman had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly aiding the mob that killed Major Mahama.

The case originally involved twelve individuals accused in connection with the 2017 lynching incident in Denkyira Obuasi, during which Major Mahama lost his life after being mistakenly identified as an armed robber. In the aftermath, over fifty suspects were apprehended, with fourteen ultimately charged.
