Ghanaian youth have been encouraged to be circumspect with the kind of choices they make this Valentine’s Day.

They have been urged to go about the day of love in ways that uplift and empower them while avoiding choices that could endanger their health and future.

In a statement, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, singled out drugs and substance abuse while cautioning that they harm the body and mind as well as undermine the aspirations of young people who are destined to be the future leaders of the nation.

He also highlighted teenage pregnancies and the rising number of HIV infections among the youth as a major concern posing serious threats to their health, education, and future opportunities.

“Valentine’s Day should be a celebration of love that builds, not destroys. I urge our youth to cherish themselves, respect themselves, respect their bodies, and commit to choices that secure their future”.

“Let us use this day to affirm our dedication to living responsibly, supporting one another, and building a generation that is strong, disciplined and ready to lead Ghana into greatness. Let us also distinguish this day as a day free of substance abuse, including alcohol. Let us remember not to offer sex as a gift on this day, but offer chocolate to a loved one”. The Minister stated.
