The Kwabre East Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Amankwah, has called on all traders in the municipality, especially Mamponteng traders, to exercise patience as the government is fully committed to completing the abandoned market for trading activities.
“The government is fully committed to completing the Mamponteng Market,” he stressed.
He made this statement in an interview with Opemsuo Radio’s Kwame Adu Gyamfi Kumanin.
His comments follow the recent protest by traders over the delay.
Hon. Amankwah revealed that the long-awaited market project was started by the NDC government fourteen years ago (14 years).
“NDC started the project and so we will make it functional.”
According to him, the actions of the government clearly indicate that the market will be completed to fulfill their pledge.
He further sympathized with the traders under the high-tension electricity wires at Mamponteng as far as their health and frustrations are concerned.
“I am with the Traders, their plight is my plight.”
Additionally, Hon. Joseph Amankwah disclosed that, legally and technically, the abandoned market remains under the control of the original contractor. He noted that firm and strategic measures must be taken to collaborate closely with the contractor to ensure the market’s completion and prevent any potential judgment debt.
He revealed that his outfit has written to the government, pleading that the 24-hour market project fund be used to complete the abandoned Mamponteng market instead of building a new market.
He indicated that his outfit has begun engaging the contractor to determine how best to allow the traders to relocate to the alternative market space designated for them while they await the completion of the main market facility.
