A man suspected of carrying out a deadly robbery at a fuel station in the Ashanti Region has been arrested by police after weeks of investigation.
The Nkawie Divisional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 29-year-old William Ofori Atta, who is believed to be behind the killing of 28-year-old Emmanuel Kwabena Boakye. The tragic incident took place on May 26, 2025, at around 12:45 p.m. at Radiance Filling Station in Mpasatia, where Boakye worked.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, told the media in Kumasi that the suspect was tracked down through the combined efforts of the Regional Cyber Crime Unit, Kukuom Police, and Nkawie Division. He was picked up from his hideout in Kukuom, Ahafo Region, during a dawn operation on June 21 at about 5:30 a.m.
During questioning, Ofori Atta reportedly admitted to shooting the victim, police revealed. Investigators also recovered a mobile phone believed to belong to the deceased from the suspect. The device is expected to undergo forensic examination to assist with the ongoing probe.
Police say Ofori Atta remains in custody and will soon face court proceedings.
DCOP Teye-Cudjoe applauded the swift coordination between the various police departments involved in the case and reassured the public that law enforcement is committed to protecting lives and property. He also encouraged anyone with relevant information about such crimes to come forward and assist the authorities.
