A 32-year-old man is in police custody after a fatal altercation in Mahamo Village, Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, that left a Good Samaritan dead after he intervened to stop a domestic dispute.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has launched a murder investigation into the incident that occurred on Saturday, February 7, 2026, involving suspect John Asiedu and the deceased, Noah Ansa, aged 32, a native of Gomo Achiase in the Central Region.
According to police, the suspect and his wife, Gifty Yoke, were engaged in a heated argument when the deceased, who lived nearby, intervened in an attempt to separate the couple.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Central Regional Police Command, explained that the suspect became displeased with the deceased’s intervention.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect later went to the deceased’s residence armed with a piece of wood, allegedly inflicting multiple injuries to the left side of the victim’s head.
The injured man was initially rushed to the Mahamo Clinic at about 10:20 a.m. on February 7, where he received treatment and was discharged.
However, on Sunday, February 8, his condition reportedly worsened. He was rushed back to the clinic for further medical attention, but sadly died shortly after arrival.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Apinto Government Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
ASP Turkson confirmed that police have met with family members who have been officially informed about the unfortunate incident and have led them to the mortuary to identify the body for postmortem examination.
“At this stage, investigations are ongoing,” she stated.
The suspect, John Asiedu, who had bloodstains on him when he was arrested by village committee members and handed over to the Benso Police Station, remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
ASP Turkson clarified that the suspect has not yet been formally charged, noting that “appropriate charges will be preferred subject to the outcome of investigations and advice from the Attorney General’s Department.”
She added that evidence is being examined and an autopsy has been requested to support the investigations.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has used the incident to urge the public to adopt lawful means of resolving disputes.
“The command would like to once again urge the public to use lawful means to resolve issues instead of resorting to violence,” ASP Turkson emphasised.
She assured residents that there is no immediate threat to public safety, as the suspect is in police custody and the situation is under control.
The Police Command has promised to provide further updates as investigations continue.
