The incident occurred on a cocoa farm in the Eastern Region
A 33-year-old man, identified as Agya Kweku, has died by suicide after his request to marry his girlfriend was reportedly rejected by her family.
The incident occurred on a cocoa farm in the Eastern Region.
According to a report by Ebenezer Manso-Cudjoe on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Agya Kweku had been dating the woman for only a month.
Intending to formalise the relationship without delay, he approached her family to seek their consent for marriage. However, the family reportedly refused his request.
Despite his persistence, visiting the family on three separate occasions, he was turned down each time. The repeated rejection is said to have taken a heavy toll on his mental state.
While working on a farm last Friday February 20, 2026, he reportedly expressed deep disappointment and began exhibiting signs of distress.
On Saturday, he asked to use his mother’s phone to make a call. Shortly afterward, he went to his uncle’s cocoa farm, where he later took his own life.
The news has shocked residents of Akyem Kyereso and left Agya Kweku’s family in deep mourning.
Speaking to the media, his uncle, Yaw, noted that although his nephew had shown signs of worry regarding the marriage, there were no clear indications that he intended to take his own life.
“Our son was already making preparations for the marriage,” Uncle Yaw said, expressing the family’s devastation over the sudden loss.
