Man Hired to Clean Ends Up Stealing—Then Tries to Ruin Another Man’s Life

A man temporarily employed as a cleaner at Padel House, a popular sports facility in Lagos’ upscale Ikoyi neighborhood, has landed in serious trouble after allegedly stealing a high-end Samsung smartphone valued at ₦700,000—and then trying to pin the crime on a fellow worker.

The cleaner had just resumed his short-term role at the sports center when the theft occurred. Instead of focusing on his duties, he allegedly lifted the pricey device and quickly passed it to an accomplice waiting outside the building to avoid being caught.

As suspicions grew, attention initially shifted to one of the security guards on duty. With limited evidence and circumstances pointing toward him, the guard found himself under serious scrutiny.

However, management at the facility acted swiftly, launching an internal probe to get to the bottom of the matter. During questioning, the cleaner broke down and confessed to stealing the phone and staging the blame to mislead investigators.

His admission not only led to the recovery of the stolen Samsung device but also cleared the name of the innocent security officer who had been wrongfully suspected.

The incident has since stirred strong emotions online, with many social media users condemning the act and sympathizing with the wrongly accused guard. Public reactions reflect the outrage over how easily someone’s reputation could have been destroyed by a false accusation.

The cleaner is now expected to face legal consequences, while the sports facility has reportedly tightened its screening measures for temporary staff.
