A young man identified as Yahaya Seidu is currently in police custody after he was allegedly found carrying an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the Western Region.
According to the Western Central Regional Police Command, Seidu was apprehended on May 29, 2025, in Aponteng Krom during an operation. Upon his arrest, authorities reportedly discovered a locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges in his possession.
Investigators say the suspect failed to produce any legal documentation or valid explanation for holding the weapon. This prompted his immediate detention as part of a wider enforcement exercise targeting illegal weapons in the area.
The retrieved weapon and ammunition have been secured by police as evidence, while preliminary questioning continues. Officials have indicated that the suspect will be charged and processed for court once ongoing investigations are finalized.
The arrest forms part of renewed efforts by regional security agencies to clamp down on unlawful possession of arms, particularly in rural communities.
