The Takoradi District Court, under the jurisdiction of Her Worship Catherine Obiri Addo, made the decision to remand Bernard Kojo Ankrah, a 25-year-old individual, into police custody following accusations of his involvement in the tragic death of his gay partner in Takoradi.
Reports suggest that Ankrah and the deceased, Jones Carlos Rodrigues Da Silva, had an ongoing romantic relationship, frequently meeting at a well-known Hotel in Accra.
Notably, the deceased held the esteemed position of Project Manager for M/S Gabriel Cuoto Rango Consortium, which was responsible for the Agona-Nkwanta Road project.
It was on October 12, 2024, when the deceased invited Ankrah to Takoradi for what was supposed to be a planned encounter.
Prior to Ankrah’s arrival, the two individuals had agreed to a transaction involving a substantial sum of thirty thousand cedis for a sexual encounter.
Upon Ankrah’s arrival in Takoradi, the deceased handed him twenty thousand cedis after their initial greeting.
An unfortunate turn of events occurred when Ankrah expressed his desire to return to Accra that same day, but the deceased insisted he stayed due to the late hour.
While inside the deceased’s residence, relaxing together, the situation took a dark turn as the deceased made unwelcomed advances towards Ankrah, which he rejected.
This led to a heated altercation, during which Ankrah retrieved a knife from the kitchen. A physical struggle ensued, resulting in the alleged stabbing of Mr. Rodrigues Da Silva three times.
In a state of panic, Ankrah took the deceased’s mobile phones and his Prado vehicle before fleeing to Accra. The unfortunate incident sheds light not so much on the finality of death but on the unpredictability and tenacity of life itself.
