The decesed is a 24-year-old trader
A man believed to be in his late 30’s has been arrested by the Awutu Jei-Krodua District Police Command for killing his girlfriend with a concrete block at Awutu Yamoah Nkwanta in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
The deceased, a 24-year-old trader identified only as Sister Yaa, was found murdered in cold blood with a concrete block placed on her face after the act.
Police sources say the suspect is a resident of Oboman community in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, but came to spend the night with his girlfriend and killed her after she allegedly denied him sex.
Information gathered indicated that the suspect first inflicted cutlass wounds on the deceased’s face before smashing her head with a concrete block.
When contacted, the Ogyahene of the Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Acheampong Kumi I, confirmed the incident, saying information had reached him from members of the community, prompting him to call the police commander to report the case.
The police arrived on the scene, took the deceased away, and later arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody pending further investigations.
Meanwhile, Nai Kumi, I encouraged women to report domestic violence threats from male spouses to the police for urgent action, rather than wait for the crisis to escalate.
He said women, who are often the primary victims of domestic violence, should not remain silent in the name of preserving their marriage but should report incidents immediately.
Moreover, he warned that crime would not be tolerated in his traditional area, saying whoever perpetrates criminal acts will be exposed and handed over to law enforcement agencies.
He also cautioned the youth against the abuse of illicit substances such as tramadol and opioids, which, when abused, can lead to committing crimes.
