A man in Abia in Nigeria has been left in the dark after his wife of seven years and mother of their two daughters disappeared over a year ago, allegedly pursuing a job opportunity in Abuja.
The man, a keke driver who has diligently provided for his family, including paying school fees, house rent, and establishing a small provision store for his wife, recounted the sequence of events that led to his current predicament.
One morning, his wife woke him with the announcement that she had secured a job in Abuja through a friend. Despite his initial reluctance due to their lack of connections in Abuja, she dismissed his concerns, accusing him of being an “enemy of progress.”
The couple, both university graduates, had often faced friction over financial aspirations, with the wife frequently comparing their lifestyle to those of more affluent families. Eventually, the husband consented to her departure, comforted by her promise to stay in touch. However, communication soon broke down. A month after her move, she refused to disclose her workplace, and her phone has remained unreachable since.
Desperate for information, the husband contacted his wife’s family, only to be met with indifference. Her mother and younger sister insisted that she was an adult capable of taking care of herself, emphasizing her pursuit of “greener pastures.” When questioned, her sister claimed they were not in contact.
The situation took a troubling turn in December when the wife’s elder sister took the children for the Christmas holiday. Upon the new school term in January, she refused to return them, asserting that they had been enrolled in a local school for their well-being. Despite his attempts to reclaim his children, the sister demanded reimbursement for the school fees, prompting bystanders to advise the distraught father to leave the children in their care, trusting their familial bond.
Earlier this year, the husband’s despair deepened when his sister-in-law posted a congratulatory message to his wife on social media, celebrating her new car. When he commented on the post, he was promptly blocked.
“I have lost my marriage and my family,” the heartbroken husband lamented, unsure of what steps to take next.
