Man Sentenced to Death for Butchering National Service Girlfriend in Cold Blood

In a chilling conclusion to a high-profile murder case, the High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the brutal killing and dismemberment of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Salome Adaidu.

Justice Simon Aboki, who presided over the case, delivered the damning judgment on Thursday, declaring that the prosecution had presented compelling evidence proving that Ajayi was responsible for the gruesome act. The crime, which took place in Ajayi’s residence, shocked the local community and drew national attention.

The convict had attempted to claim that he lost consciousness after spending intimate time with the victim, and that his confession had been made while in an unconscious state. However, the court dismissed his defense as implausible and unsupported by any credible evidence.

After months of legal proceedings, the judge concluded that Ajayi’s actions amounted to culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code applicable in Northern Nigeria. The provision mandates the death penalty for such an offence.

With the evidence pointing clearly to his guilt, the court handed down the ultimate punishment: death by hanging, marking a decisive end to a disturbing and heartbreaking case that took the life of a young corps member serving her country.
