The victim, 26-year-old fashion designer Mabel Asantewaa, reportedly lived with the suspect, identified only as Sammy, who is in his late twenties. According to reports, the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, September 10. Sammy allegedly stabbed Mabel multiple times in the neck, resulting in her immediate death, before consuming a poisonous substance in a failed suicide attempt.
Neighbours recounted hearing screams and cries for help around 2:00 a.m. One eyewitness who entered the apartment described the scene as horrifying: Mabel was found naked in a pool of blood, while traces of palm oil were near Sammy, who was struggling to breathe. The eyewitness also noted that Mabel’s underwear was partially removed and stained with menstrual blood.
The suspect reportedly called a friend after ingesting the poison to inform him about the incident. Authorities say there were no prior indications of conflict between the couple; Sammy is a carpenter and Mabel a fashion designer.
