Legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has taken aim at the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah—widely known as Sticka—over his decision to publicly speak about a previous romantic relationship with the wife of the late NADMO Deputy Director, Samuel Aboagye. The late official died in the tragic August 6 helicopter crash, a disaster that has since triggered family disputes and media speculation.
Ampaw, speaking on Wontumi Radio in Kumasi, expressed strong disapproval of the MP’s decision to revisit a past relationship that had no direct link to the ongoing investigation or the conflict surrounding the deceased’s family. According to him, Sticka’s decision lacked judgment and maturity, especially considering the delicate nature of the situation and the intense emotions involved.
The lawyer argued that although rumours circulating online suggested that an unnamed Ashanti Region MP had once been romantically involved with the widow, no one had publicly identified Stephen Amoah. Ampaw believed that the MP should have ignored the chatter, since the speculation had not pointed at him directly. Instead, Sticka chose to clarify that he had indeed dated the woman many years earlier, a move the lawyer considers unnecessary and damaging.
In his view, the MP should have chosen restraint, especially since public attention had shifted from one suspected individual to another without any concrete evidence. To Ampaw, the affair belonged to the past and did not merit being revived on a media platform, particularly when the widow and the late official’s family were already embroiled in sensitive disputes following the tragedy.
The controversy deepened after the death of Samuel Aboagye, when tensions between his family and his widow, Abigail Salami, intensified. Reports emerged that the family had taken legal action against Abigail at the Obuasi District Court on November 11, 2025. The disagreement stemmed from a government-requested DNA test required to properly identify the remains of helicopter crash victims before transporting samples to South Africa for advanced analysis.
Authorities requested DNA samples from immediate relatives of those who perished in the crash. However, the widow allegedly declined to present her young daughter for the test, which compelled another relative to step in as a substitute. This sparked mistrust between both sides and further fueled public speculation.
Amid these developments, the family accused Abigail of maintaining a secret relationship with an MP both before and after her husband’s passing. The allegations intensified when a circulating video featured media personality Blakk Rasta suggesting that the MP involved was Stephen Amoah, claiming the late official’s relatives had identified him.
The MP later responded in an interview with broadcaster Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on November 14, 2025. During that discussion, he distanced himself from the rumours, explaining that although he knew Abigail from years back, they had lost contact for nearly seven years and only met again at her husband’s funeral. He insisted that the claims about an ongoing romantic affair were untrue and argued that the widow did not fit the profile of someone capable of maintaining simultaneous relationships.
Despite Sticka’s defence, his earlier admission about a long-ended relationship is what triggered Ampaw’s criticism. The lawyer maintains that the MP’s comments only added tension to an already emotional situation and created unnecessary public drama at a time when the family is still dealing with loss, legal disputes, and scrutiny surrounding the helicopter crash.
