Grassroots leaders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Atwima Nwabiagya South, Ashanti Region, are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to investigate claims that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah, is using District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment for illegal mining.

According to the NDC local executives, their own inquiries corroborate residents’ reports that the MCE has allegedly diverted machinery meant for road maintenance to support galamsey operations.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuakwa, Iddrisu Mohammed, leader of the NDC group, emphasized that the party cannot ignore alleged misuse of state resources, which could endanger both the municipality and the party’s electoral standing. While stressing that the MCE should not be removed outright, he insisted a thorough investigation is necessary.

Additionally, Kontor David, a local polling station chairman, accused the MCE of misleading both residents and Parliament’s Local Government Committee. He claimed that projects the current MCE has taken credit for were actually completed by his predecessor under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration and highlighted that no new developmental projects have been initiated under the current leadership.

The NDC executives are urging national party authorities to take swift action to protect the party’s credibility and ensure accountability in the municipality ahead of the upcoming elections.
