Ghanaian musician Medikal has pledged to use his influence to make a meaningful impact in the fight against drug abuse among young people following his appointment as an ambassador for the National Youth Authority’s “Red Means Stop” campaign.

Medikal made the commitment on Thursday, March 12, 2026, during a ceremony at the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment where he was officially unveiled as an ambassador for the initiative.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, in the presence of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga.

Speaking after receiving the appointment, Medikal said he was honoured to be part of the campaign and expressed his determination to help raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse among young people.

He indicated that he accepted the role because he believes the initiative can have a lasting impact on the lives of the youth.

The musician also revealed that he would not receive any payment for serving as ambassador for the campaign.

According to him, the opportunity to support a cause that can positively influence the next generation was more important than financial reward.

Medikal said he intends to use his music, social media presence and public engagements to spread the message of the “Red Means Stop” campaign and encourage young people to stay away from drugs.

The campaign forms part of efforts by the National Youth Authority and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment to address the growing problem of substance abuse among young people, particularly the use of the synthetic drug known as “Red”.

Through advocacy, education and partnerships with public figures, the initiative seeks to discourage drug use and promote responsible choices among Ghana’s youth.
