The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Yohuno, has announced promotions to the next rank for members of the Police Royal Ladies.

The announcement was made at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi as Asanteman was observing the first Akwasidae of the year.

The promotion comes on the back of two separate honour parades the group held at the Police Headquarters on January 6, 2026, and then at the Manhyia Palace on February 1, 2026, to celebrate Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

Addressing the gathering on Sunday, the IGP said the display of the Ladies was their humble way of expressing the Ghana Police Service’s profound appreciation for Otumfuo’s unprecedented visit to the police headquarters.

He disclosed that the name of the group was inspired by the Asantehene.

“We have these ladies called royal ladies. We named them after Otumfuo. They have come to grace the occasion and to make the first of its kind in the Manhyia Palace, and also attended by many of our POMAB members here this afternoon.”

On their promotion, he expressed satisfaction with their hard work and displays, saying the decision to promote them was a unanimous Management decision.

“I wish to announce to Otumfuo that these ladies have been working very hard. They have distinguished themselves and are only available to do anything possible to make Ghana proud, and for this being the first of its kind to honour Otumfuo at the National Police headquarters and also being the first of its kind to visit the Manhyia Palace, the police administration decided to promote them to the next rank.”

The IGP used the occasion to praise the Asantehene for his continuous support and efforts towards national peace and security.

“We thank you for the advice you give us, and we pray God will continue to protect you, the King Solomon of this country, so that we continue to come and tap wisdom from you. It is not the Ghana Police Service, but the whole nation is proud of you.”

Praying for longevity and health for the King, Mr Yohuno committed to joining subsequent Akwasidae festivals within this year.

The IGP was accompanied by the Police Management Board (POMAB).
