The Methodist Church Ghana has renewed its commitment to interreligious dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, emphasising the importance of religious freedom across all its educational institutions.

“Our faith communities must continue to be partners in education, forming young people in both knowledge and character,” the church said in its Easter message.

The statement, delivered by the Presiding Bishop of the church, Most Rev Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, and released today, April 1, noted that this year’s Christian season of Lent coincided with the sacred period of Ramadan. The church expressed gratitude to Muslim brothers and sisters for their discipline and devotion during fasting and prayer.

Extending greetings for Eid-ul-Fitr, the church said their devotion serves as a witness to the significance of faith in national life.

The church also extended Easter greetings to President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and all individuals holding positions of trust in the country.

“May the celebrations of the death and resurrection of Christ which we celebrate at this time inspire in us the spirit of purpose and renewal as we seek to build our country and make our individual contributions to our collective destiny,” the message said.

In its Easter message, the church called on public servants to abandon self-serving attitudes that have contributed to high levels of corruption.

“It is not right that public service, rather than being a means to serve God’s people, has become a vehicle for personal enrichment, leading to the impoverishment of our citizens,” the statement said.

The church urged Ghanaians to embrace the spirit of renewal, starting with abandoning self-serving decisions that undermine collective prosperity.

“This movement of Jesus Christ from humiliation to exaltation is not merely a distant theological truth. It is the pattern of new life opened to us through the resurrection. The cross was not the end of Jesus, it was the beginning of a new agenda of exultation of Jesus as the Christ of God. The empty tomb is God’s signal that there is no situation that is beyond redemption. Where there is despair, hope can rise; where there is death, new life awaits; and where there is corruptibility, a change of course is possible. Easter assures us that the path of humility, service and even suffering, when we walk with Christ, leads to fullness of life,” the statement added.
