President John Dramani Mahama has called on leaders involved in the ongoing Middle East conflict to “choose dialogue over war”, urging a peaceful resolution to end the suffering of innocent civilians.
Speaking at the Independence Square in Accra on Friday, March 20, during Eid-al-Fitr celebrations, the President expressed concern over the escalating violence in the region, noting the devastating human cost of the conflict.
“As we celebrate today, we cannot ignore the pain and suffering that is going on in other parts of the world… innocent lives, including women and children, are being lost. Families have been displaced, and communities have been shattered,” he said.
The President specifically appealed to the key global leaders involved in the war, including US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, to demonstrate leadership in ending the conflict.
“May Allah touch the hearts of the leaders, President Trump, Netanyahu, Mojtaba Khamenei, so that this war will come to an end,” he said.
President Mahama called on Muslims and Ghanaians at large to use the occasion to pray for peace, healing, and relief for those affected.
“Let us pray for comfort for bereaved families, healing for the injured, and relief for those in distress. Above all, let us pray for wisdom for the leaders of the countries involved to choose dialogue over war,” he urged.
He stressed the importance of preserving human life, referencing Islamic teachings that underscore the value of humanity.
“The Holy Quran teaches us that saving one life is as if saving all of humanity. We must never lose sight of our shared humanity,” he noted.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to peace, justice, and respect for international law, stating that the country will continue to advocate for diplomatic solutions to global conflicts.
“Ghana remains committed to the principles of peace and will continue to lend its voice to the pursuit of a peaceful resolution, not only in the Middle East but in conflicts around the world,” he added.
