Miracle Films Calls on Ashanti Regional Minister for Free Visas to Boost Kumawood
Renowned Ghanaian movie director and actor, Mr. Samuel Akwasi Nyamekye, popularly known as Miracle Films, has appealed to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, for free visas to enable Kumawood filmmakers to participate in international film festivals.
According to him, this move could significantly contribute to reviving the Kumawood movie industry, which has faced a decline in recent years.
Miracle Films argued that one of the major reasons the Nigerian movie industry continues to thrive is the active involvement of its stakeholders in global film festivals.
He believes these festivals provide critical exposure, networking opportunities, and platforms to showcase Ghanaian talent to the world.
However, Miracle Films noted that the high cost and difficulty of securing visas prevent many Ghanaian actors, directors, and producers from attending such events.
He stressed that this limitation has hindered Kumawood’s growth and international presence.
“Attending film festivals abroad is essential to project Ghana globally. It will open doors for collaborations and investments that can rejuvenate the industry,” he stated. “Unfortunately, many of us cannot afford the travel expenses and visa fees required to participate.”
In his appeal, Miracle Films urged the Ashanti Regional Minister to explore ways of assisting Kumawood stakeholders with visa facilitation. He expressed optimism that with such support, Kumawood could regain its former glory and compete favourably on the international stage.
His comments have sparked discussions among industry players and fans alike, with many expressing hope that the government will heed the call and support Kumawood’s resurgence.
