Miracle Films CEO Accuses NPP of Abandoning Kumawood
The CEO of Miracle Films, Mr. Samuel Akwasi Nyamekye, has strongly criticised Ghana’s opposition NPP government, claiming it failed to support the Kumawood movie industry despite repeated assurances.
In a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Mr. Nyamekye highlighted Kumawood’s struggle for survival, pointing out that promises made by the NPP government to revitalise the sector were never honoured.
He argued that the establishment of a film village would have transformed the industry by providing crucial infrastructure, attracting investors, and enhancing local film production.
According to Mr. Nyamekye, Kumawood’s inability to compete globally stems from the lack of facilities and opportunities, such as access to international film festivals that boost exposure. He believes that with proper infrastructure, like a film village, Ghana’s movie industry could mirror the success of Nigeria’s thriving film sector.
He further expressed disappointment that these suggestions were overlooked, leaving Kumawood actors, directors, and producers without the tools needed to revive the industry. The absence of government backing, he said, has resulted in widespread disillusionment among industry stakeholders.
His remarks have sparked fresh conversations about the state of Ghana’s creative arts sector, with renewed calls for the government to prioritise long-term policies and infrastructure projects that will enable the entertainment industry to flourish both locally and internationally.
