The Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) has officially commenced activities toward the historic celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Mfantsipim with a Pre-Launch press briefing held at the MOBA Secretariat in Accra.
The ceremony, held as part of the structured build-up to the school’s sesquicentennial celebration, convened distinguished alumni, members of Mfantsipim School’s Governing Council, revered faith leaders, representatives of the Ghana Education Service (GES), and members of the Anniversary Planning Committee.
The Pre-Launch press briefing follows an earlier milestone occasion, the official unveiling of the 150th Anniversary logo, a powerful visual identity that encapsulates the heritage, values, and forward-looking aspirations of Mfantsipim School.
Delivering remarks at the briefing and representing the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in Ghana, Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey reflected on Mfantsipims’ enduring role in shaping Ghana’s moral, intellectual, and leadership landscape.
He noted that for 150 years, the school has remained a beacon of discipline, character formation, and holistic education, producing alumni who continue to distinguish themselves across diverse sectors in Ghana and globally.
He emphasised virtues such as integrity, humility, diligence, accountability, and purposeful leadership as the moral compass guiding generations of Mfantsipim alumni.
President of the 150th Anniversary Planning Committee, Captain John B. Yamoah, described the forthcoming celebration as “a remarkable milestone that will be etched permanently in the annals of Ghanaian history.” He noted that the sesquicentennial is not merely a commemoration of longevity, but a moment of reflection, renewal, and recommitment to the school’s founding ideals.
He also announced that the official unveiling of the 150th Anniversary commemorative cloth will take place on March 20th at Wesley Towers in Accra, calling on distinguished members of the MOBA fraternity to proudly adorn the anniversary cloth as a visible symbol of unity, heritage, and collective pride, ensuring dignified representation befitting the Mfantsipim brand.
Captain Yamoah also cautioned against any misrepresentation of the school’s name, emphasising that the institution remains Mfantsipim School, or simply Mfantsipim, and should not be inaccurately referred to as “Mfantsipim Senior Secondary” or “Mfantsipim Senior High.”
He underscored that the Mfantsipim brand is singular, historic, and irreplicable, and must be treated with the reverence it commands.
Also addressing the gathering, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, reaffirmed the Service’s steadfast commitment to strengthening second-cycle education across Ghana.
He recognised Mfantsipim School as one of the nation’s foremost torchbearers of academic excellence, acknowledging its profound contribution to the nation’s intellectual and leadership landscape over the past century and a half.
He further called on old students across all second-cycle institutions to actively support their alma mater, particularly in the areas of academic advancement and infrastructure development, to ensure sustained excellence within Ghana’s educational landscape.
In his remarks, the Headmaster of Mfantsipim School, Prof. Ebenezer Aidoo, described the institution as a model of discipline and holistic learning, committed to nurturing not only intellectual excellence but also moral character and civic responsibility.
As the School approaches its sesquicentennial climax in Cape Coast, Mfantsipim at 150 stands as both a celebration of legacy and a renewed commitment to faith, excellence, and purposeful leadership, true to its timeless call, Dwen Hwe Kan.
