The party warned that any delegate who violates the directive will be arrested

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned delegates participating in its flagbearer primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026 against carrying mobile phones into the inner voting areas.

The party warned that any delegate who violates the directive will be arrested, prosecuted, and disqualified from voting.

Speaking to Citi News on Friday, January 30, 2026 a member of the NPP Presidential Election Committee, Isaac Baah Boamah, outlined the voting procedures and rules governing the exercise.

“The electoral officials, per the guidelines, have been told that it is a walk-in exercise. The areas will be demarcated into three sections: the outer section, the middle section, and the inner section,” he said.

According to him, delegates will first be identified in the outer section using approved identification documents.

“We have approved four forms of identification. Any one of them will be permissible: voter’s ID, party ID, national passport, or Ghana Card. Any delegate without an ID cannot cast a ballot,” Boamah explained.

He further stressed that party officials will not validate or confirm the identity of any delegate during the process.

“I urge every delegate to look for their ID card before coming to vote. When you enter the inner circle, you are not supposed to go in with any foreign material, including mobile phones,” he added.

The ballot paper for the primary will feature former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Abetifi MP Dr Bryan Acheampong, Bosomtwe MP Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
