Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Fautina Elikplim Akurugu, joined the Women’s Caucus of Parliament to commemorate International Women’s Day with students at La Girls Technical Institute and Street Academy in Accra, encouraging young girls to pursue leadership and believe in their potential.
The visit formed part of activities to mark the global celebration under the theme “Give to Gain,” which highlights the importance of supporting and investing in women and girls for societal progress.
Addressing the students, Mrs. Akurugu urged young women to take their education seriously and develop the confidence needed to lead in their communities and professions.
“Every young girl here has the potential to become a leader. Your background should not limit your ambition. With determination, discipline, and education, you can rise to any position you aspire to,” she said.
She noted that empowering girls with knowledge and opportunities remains essential for national development.
According to her, the presence of women in leadership positions continues to grow, and young girls must prepare themselves to take up those roles in the future.
Members of the Women’s Caucus also encouraged the students to support one another and focus on building skills that will help them contribute meaningfully to society.
Speaking to the students at Street Academy, Mrs Akurugu emphasized the importance of self-belief and resilience.
“Women must learn to support each other. When we uplift one another and share opportunities, we all grow. That is the spirit of ‘Give to Gain,’” she stated.
Students who participated in the engagement expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as motivating and inspiring. Many said hearing directly from women leaders in Parliament encouraged them to work harder toward their goals.
The outreach formed part of the Women’s Caucus’ effort to inspire young girls and promote leadership among the next generation of women in Ghana.
