Kofi Benteh Afful, Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso, has drawn attention to the reduced influence of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament, describing the opposition as occupying a “one corner” space in the House. His comments came during discussions on the 2026 national budget.

Afful observed that, while Parliament once seemed divided into two main sides, current dynamics reveal a small bloc representing the NPP, highlighting its reduced numbers and legislative leverage. He also noted that the budget presented by the ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), aims not just at economic growth but at job creation and broader development initiatives, tackling gaps left by the previous administration.

The remarks come in the context of the NDC’s two-thirds majority, holding 184 out of 275 seats, alongside four independent MPs. By contrast, the NPP controls 86 seats, underscoring its limited presence in shaping parliamentary decisions.
