The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, is intensifying pressure on the government to urgently intervene in what she describes as a worsening infrastructure crisis affecting her constituency. She has identified 33 neglected roads that she says must be added to the current road development commitments under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama and the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
Her concern stems from the daily struggles residents face due to severely deteriorated roads, especially in communities reliant on farming and trading. According to the MP, the challenges extend far beyond inconvenience — the poor condition of access routes is stifling economic growth, disrupting schooling, and making healthcare delivery far more difficult.
Although she acknowledged that some projects have already been approved, she stressed that the situation in Amenfi Central requires a much broader and urgent response from authorities.
The 33 roads listed by the MP are spread across major economic and settlement zones. They include links from Humgebire (Gate) through Ankwaso, Juabo and Wuratrem leading to Wasa Akropong; as well as Wuratrem through Ankasie to Agona Amenfi. Other crucial routes connect Agona Amenfi to farming communities such as Kyenkyen Nkwanta, Agona Camp, Owusu Dapaa and Amonda. Additionally, Manso Amenfi to Antonsu, and routes passing through Adidaase, Aku Nkwanta, Akyeamkrom, Dominase, Asuminam, Bredi and Kwakukoa were highlighted as essential but long neglected.
The MP emphasized that these connections are vital to the constituency’s agricultural economy. Bad road conditions continue to inflate transport costs, trap produce in farming communities during the rainy season, and limit market access. In some cases, residents become completely cut off when heavy rains strike.
Her renewed public appeal draws national attention to a broader discussion on fair allocation of road investments — particularly in rural areas considered the food baskets of the country.
The legislator insists that transforming these roads will not only unlock the full economic potential of Amenfi Central but also protect lives, secure livelihoods and enhance overall development.
