MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), a pan-African training institution for film and television professionals, has extended the application deadline for its 2026 intake to April 30, giving aspiring filmmakers across the continent additional time to apply for its fully funded programme.
The initiative, established by MultiChoice, aims to nurture the next generation of African storytellers by equipping young creatives with practical skills in filmmaking, production and content development.
Young people interested in careers as directors, scriptwriters, producers, filmmakers and digital storytellers are eligible to apply for the nine-month programme, which combines theoretical training with hands-on production experience.
Organisers say the 2026 intake will follow an expanded curriculum designed to balance academic instruction with practical immersion. The course will be delivered through a hybrid format, blending interactive online learning with intensive in-person training sessions.
The academies are located in Kenya, Nigeria and Zambia and collectively serve applicants from 14 African countries, offering participants access to industry mentors, professional networks and real-world production opportunities.
Since its launch in 2018, the programme has trained 296 filmmakers across the continent. Graduates have produced more than 42 films during their training, many of which have been broadcast on platforms including DStv, GOtv and the streaming service Showmax.
Participants are required to produce their own film projects as part of the training process, allowing them to gain practical experience while showcasing their work to industry audiences.
According to organisers, many alumni of the programme have gone on to work within the MultiChoice content ecosystem and on major African productions. Others have launched independent ventures, with more than 50 production companies established by former students.
Graduates have also gained international recognition, participating in and winning awards at events such as the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, the Kalasha Awards and the Uganda Film Festival.
The programme forms part of MultiChoice’s broader strategy to promote locally produced African stories and strengthen the continent’s creative economy by investing in young talent.
Applications for the 2026 intake are now open until April 30, with organisers encouraging aspiring filmmakers across Africa to take advantage of the opportunity to develop their craft and contribute to the future of African storytelling.
