A disturbing incident has come to light, as shared by a concerned netizen, highlighting the struggles faced by students with special needs in Ghana’s education system.
The netizen recounted how their autistic brother was forced to take a theory exam in school, despite prior agreements with the school and the Ghana Education Service (GES) that he would only participate in practical exams due to his condition.
The family had paid fees for three years, and the school had initially assured them that their son would be accommodated with practical exams only.
However, the school suddenly reneged on this agreement, causing immense frustration and distress for the student.
The brother became so upset that he called his sibling from school, begging to be removed from the situation.
The family was forced to withdraw their son from the school to protect his well-being. This incident raises questions about the lack of support and understanding for students with special needs in Ghana’s education system.
The netizen’s heartfelt account highlights the need for greater empathy and inclusivity in our schools.
