Veteran highlife artiste Rex Omar has revealed that his children will not be following in his footsteps into the music industry. According to Omar, his experiences with disappointment and neglect in the industry have led him to advise his children to pursue other passions.
In an interview with Accra-based 3FM monitored by News & Vibes, Omar shared that despite their talent and interest in music, he has actively discouraged his children from pursuing careers in the industry. He cited the lack of support from the government and the industry’s neglect of its creatives as reasons for his decision.
He explained that none of his children is into music.
“I didn’t impose it on them, but I told them the truth,” Omar said. “I said, ‘If you play around with music as a Ghanaian, music will disappoint you.’ And they understood.”
Omar’s decision has sparked a conversation about the challenges facing the music industry in Ghana. Many have commended Omar for being honest with his children and preparing them for the harsh realities of the industry.
While some have criticized Omar for discouraging his children from pursuing their passion, many agree that his experiences and wisdom are valuable lessons for the next generation of musicians.
The question remains: will Rex Omar’s children regret not pursuing music, or will they find success in other fields? Only time will tell.
