Kojo Blak is a fast-rising Ghanaian artiste
Conversations about agreements and contracts, specifically involving artistes, record labels, and brands, have resurfaced following Kwesi Arthur’s contract saga with Ground Up.
Fast-rising artiste Kojo Blak, who is signed to two labels, has shared his perspective on the matter.
In an interview on TV3, Kojo Blak explained that while he is not an expert on contracts, his lawyer breaks everything down for him.
According to Kojo, he has been in the music industry for a while and therefore has a fair idea of what managing an artiste entail, including contracts and agreements.
He said he has also seen how friends who were in the industry before him have offered advice on certain matters.

“I’ve been here for a while, so I know what goes into managing an artiste, what goes into artiste contracts, agreements, and all those things. And even the worst-case scenarios, I’ve seen a lot, because I’ve had friends who were bigger than me at that time. I’ve seen a lot, and I’ve received a lot of advice from many people. Most importantly, my lawyer, so before I put pen on paper, he would be the one to check everything, my music lawyer,” he said.
Kojo Blak also indicated that his lawyer has had a huge impact on his career, helping him navigate contracts and agreements that could otherwise have been challenging.
“He has impacted my life in a way, because if not for people like that and the knowledge they give me based on contracts and agreements, I think I would have also dipped when it comes to signing contracts, agreements, and the clauses that go into them. I wouldn’t say I know best, but because I do have a lawyer, I’m sorted on that front,” he added.
The conversation comes amid disputes between music company ‘Ground Up Chale’, its founder, Glen Boateng, and rapper Kwesi Arthur.
The label has currently filed a writ of summons at the High Court in Accra against Kwesi Arthur for libel, seeking GH¢10 million in damages.
The conflict stems from allegations made by Kwesi Arthur against his former management, with the label defending its position in court.
