Dear GhanaWeb,

I got married three weeks ago to a 33-year-old man. During our relationship, he appeared calm and loving, so I believed he had good intentions for me.

We dated for about 14 months before marrying. I wanted to settle down and have children, but he said he wasn’t financially ready, so I sponsored the entire ceremony.

I channeled the money through him so it would appear as though he was responsible for everything. At 31, I felt time was passing and I needed to get married.

After the wedding, I had about GH₵400,000 left in my account. He suggested I give him half or more to invest so we wouldn’t have to work too much. Just two days after our marriage, I gave him GH₵300,000.

We married on Saturday, and by Monday evening, I had withdrawn the money and handed it to him.

On Wednesday, when I returned from work, he was gone. He had packed some of his belongings and taken my laptop, along with two new phones I had kept in my drawer.

When I called, he claimed he had traveled urgently and promised to return in two days with everything, saying he was going to trade with the money. I asked why he took my gadgets, and he gave vague excuses, assuring me he would bring them back.

None of his explanations made sense, but because he was my husband, I felt I had to trust him. Since then, I haven’t heard from him. His numbers are switched off, and I don’t even know where he went. This is someone who married me just three weeks ago.

I’m not pregnant, I haven’t demanded anything from him, I only loved him genuinely and wanted to start a family.

Now it seems he has run away with my money and belongings. I had faith he would return since we are legally married, but what if he doesn’t?
