Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Mzbel has come under fire after revealing that she deliberately avoids employing individuals from the Ga ethnic group.
Speaking in a radio interview monitored by News and Vibes, the 16 Years hitmaker disclosed that during job interviews, she inquires about an applicant’s tribal background and automatically rejects those who identify as Ga.
She attributed her decision to past experiences, claiming that many of her former Ga employees failed to show up for work after their first day.
According to Mzbel, some of these employees frequently gave excuses such as attending social gatherings, which she perceived as a lack of commitment and discipline.
Frustrated by these repeated disappointments, she said she has since made it a personal policy not to employ people from the Ga community.
Her statement has ignited a heated debate on social media, with critics accusing her of promoting tribal discrimination in the workplace.
While some supporters argue that personal experiences can shape hiring preferences, many others have condemned her stance as unfair and prejudiced.
With workplace discrimination becoming an increasing topic of concern in Ghana, Mzbel’s remarks are likely to spark further discussions on the ethical implications of tribal biases in employment.
