The Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, has called on residents to take personal responsibility for their health by maintaining clean surroundings and actively participating in community sanitation efforts.
The MP made the appeal after joining residents in a clean-up exercise at Sekoti in the Upper East Region, where participants cleared waste across key parts of the community, including the Sekoti market, the local clinic, the chiefs’ palace, and shops along the roads leading to Pelungu and Nyogbare.
The exercise forms part of the government’s broader initiative championed by the President to promote cleanliness and improve public health outcomes nationwide.
Dr. Nawaane emphasized that environmental cleanliness is directly linked to disease prevention and overall well-being.
“Good health begins with a clean environment. We must not wait for authorities alone to direct us. Each of us has a role to play in keeping our communities clean,” he said.
The District Chief Executive for Nabdam, Francis Tobig, also participated in the exercise alongside Zoomlion officers from the District Assembly, political party representatives, assembly members, and other community leaders.
Their collective involvement underscored the importance of collaboration between government officials and local communities in sustaining sanitation efforts.
“When leadership and community members work together like this, it sets a strong example and builds momentum for lasting change,” Mr. Tobig added.
Residents who took part in the exercise expressed appreciation for the leadership shown and pledged to maintain the cleanliness achieved during the activity.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to instill a culture of sanitation and civic responsibility across communities in the Upper East Region and beyond.
