NAIMOS says the soldier who was shot has recovered

Lance Corporal Morris Addae, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force member who was shot during an operation in January 2026, has successfully recovered and is preparing to return to duty.

In a statement dated Thursday, February 26, 2026, it said the soldier sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, when unknown assailants opened fire on NAIMOS personnel during an anti-galamsey operation along the Subinkurom–Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.

Following the incident, he was rushed to St Matthew Catholic Hospital, Ampenkuro, where he received prompt medical attention.

“After weeks of intensive care and rehabilitation, L/Cpl Addae is now in good health and preparing to rejoin his colleagues to continue the government’s fight against illegal mining,” it stated.

NAIMOS reassured the public of its commitment to combating illegal mining activities across the country.
