Nairobi is set to host the inaugural Mandela African Leadership Summit, placing Kenya at the centre of a new Africa-led movement aimed at reshaping leadership, development, and Pan-African cooperation.
The two-day Summit will open on 5 February and end on 6 February, with activities taking place at the Two Rivers Mall. High-profile speakers, panellists, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and youth leaders from across Africa and the diaspora are expected to participate.
Kenya will become the first country ever to host this flagship event, which seeks to bring together a new generation of African leaders. Participants will include entrepreneurs, technology innovators, creative industry leaders, diaspora investors, and youth policymakers, all united by the Pan-African philosophy of Ubuntu – “I am because we are.”
The Summit aims to turn Africa’s major challenges into opportunities, with Nairobi serving as the launch point for new ideas, partnerships, and solutions driven by Africans themselves.
Keynote speaker Ndaba Mandela, grandson of former South African President Nelson Mandela, said the Summit is meant to go beyond speeches.
“This is not another talking shop, and the world is waiting for Africa to lead itself,” Ndaba Mandela said.
He explained that the focus is on moving from ideas to action. “We are moving from symbolism to strategy. Nairobi is where we unite the continent’s brainpower, its billion-strong youth, and its boundless creative spirit to build a future that does not just copy global models, but surpasses them,” he added.
“This Summit is our declaration of interdependence.”
The Summit will focus on five key areas, including digital transformation, entrepreneurship, and diaspora collaboration, with the goal of building practical partnerships that can deliver real impact. Organisers say the timing is critical, as Africa’s young population continues to grow and the need for ethical, innovative leadership becomes more urgent.
For Kenya, hosting the first edition of the Summit is strategic. It strengthens Nairobi’s position as a major hub for dialogue, innovation, and investment on the continent. The event is also expected to boost hospitality, tourism, and international visibility, while allowing Kenya to play a stronger role in shaping Africa’s agenda on technology, sustainable development, and cultural diplomacy.
