Ghanaian entrepreneur, Jerry Osei Amoah, affectionately called Nana Kobo, has expressed his resolve to help address housing challenges in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
Mr Jerry Amoah is one of the investors in Ghana’s creative industry. He is known for impacting musicians, including the late Yaw Sarpong and his Asomafo. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Nana Kobo Ventures, a conglomerate that deals in music production, artiste management, real estate, football management and lottery.
Housing deficit remains a troubling situation in Accra, driven by rapid urbanisation, high population growth and income disparities.
Over the years, efforts have been made by government to nip the situation in the bud, but to no avail due to affordability challenges.
Against this backdrop, the Managing Director of Nako Properties, Mr Jerry Osei Amoah, has pledged his support to build between 50 and 100 single-unit and family-sized affordable homes to help address accommodation problems in Accra.
He made the pledge during an interaction with a section of the media in Accra.
According to Mr Osei Amoah, a lot of teachers, nurses and even young doctors struggle with accommodation issues when they pass out or are posted to work in Accra.
“ I have been thinking and having dreams of how to solve this issue and am happy God has made it possible for this opportunity to come through,” he said.
He noted that the initiative will allow nurses, doctors, teachers and even self-employed Ghanaians to access decent accommodation with their modest incomes.
He said although Nako Properties builds luxury homes for a certain class of people, it is important for private businesses to partner with government to solve societal issues, “government alone cant solve all the issues.”
Against this backdrop, he revealed that the right measures have been put in place to deliver affordable housing and ease Accra’s accommodation challenges.
He concluded by saying that with innovative construction, rent schemes and strategic partnerships, there is hope for Ghana’s housing sector.
