With the 2024 general elections drawing near, radio host Nana Romeo is calling on the Inspector General of Police to prohibit pastors and prophets from making electoral forecasts.
He contends that during every election season, there is a rise in differing predictions from religious figures who believe they have received divine guidance regarding the election results.
Nana Romeo thinks that this habit leads to unnecessary discord and fragmentation among the people, especially when these forecasts do not match up.
He pointed out the possible risks of such predictions, stating that disagreements among various assertions could cause turmoil, especially if a prophecy does not come true.
He noted that confusion arises when there are multiple prophets who claim to receive messages from the same God.
This scenario may cause disagreement among their supporters and worsen tensions in a politically charged setting.
Nana Romeo’s request for assistance highlights wider worries regarding the influence of religious figures on political discussions and public opinion ahead of crucial elections.
“We all know we have one God who doesn’t lie. How can God tell Prophet A that the NDC will win the election, and then tell Prophet B that the NPP will win? If these two prophets declare their prophecies publicly and one of them doesn’t come to pass, it can cause misunderstandings.”
