National security operatives have been accused of stealing GH₵10,000 in cash and valuable jewelry during a raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
The raid, which took place at Dr. Addison’s home in Roman Ridge, was part of a broader operation that reportedly failed to uncover any incriminating evidence but led to the disappearance of the cash and personal items belonging to his wife.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, speaking to the press in Parliament on Thursday, March 20, 2025, revealed that the missing items included earrings and necklaces, which were reportedly taken during the raid.
While the purpose of the operation was to uncover evidence related to Dr. Addison’s tenure at the central bank, the outcome has raised serious concerns, especially given the allegations of theft.
Afenyo-Markin also stated that three official vehicles belonging to Dr. Addison were seized during the raid. These vehicles were later found abandoned at an undisclosed location, and the governor’s drivers were instructed to retrieve them.
The Minority Leader expressed alarm over the conduct of the operatives, questioning the legality of their actions.
He pointed out that before carrying out the raid, the operatives had dismantled the CCTV system in Dr. Addison’s home, raising suspicions about the legality of their actions.
This development follows a broader pattern of controversial actions by national security operatives, drawing comparisons to previous incidents, such as the raid on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s home.
The situation has ignited widespread criticism, with concerns growing over the abuse of power by state agencies and the potential erosion of the rule of law.
The allegations of theft have prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the actions of the national security operatives involved in the raid. There are also concerns about the impact of such actions on Ghana’s image, particularly in the context of investor confidence and the rule of law.
The government has yet to respond to these specific allegations, but as the story develops, many are demanding accountability for the actions of the operatives and ensuring that such incidents are not repeated.
